Wichita State Wins Riviera Division Championship
Wichita State 75, Iowa 63
Cancun, Mexico - Wichita State won its first in-season tournament outside the State of Kansas since 1963 with a 75-63 defeat of Iowa in the championship game of the Cancun Challenge Wednesday night.

The Shockers were led in scoring by tournament MVP Cleanthony Early, who had 25 points and nine boards in the championship game, which included a 7-of-13 effort from the field and an 8-of-9 effort from the line.

Malcolm Armstead, also a member of the all-tournament team, had 14 points to back Early, while he also dished out five assists. Armstead also had 17 points in the semifinal win against DePaul Tuesday night.

WSU led from the 17:37 mark of the second half, and held Iowa to only four field goals in the second frame, to keep the Hawkeyes at bay to claim the its first in-season tournament away from Wichita since winning the All-College Tournament in 1963 in Oklahoma City.

Aaron White led four double-digit Iowa scorers with 14 points as he made 11-of-12 free throws.

Western Kentucky 70, DePaul 61
Less than 24 hours after a tough loss to Iowa, WKU bounced back to defeat DePaul Wednesday night, 70-61, to take third place in the Riviera Division in the 2012 Cancun Challenge. The Hilltoppers saw 30 of their points come from the reserves, and WKU forced 15 Blue Demon turnovers and held DePaul to just one three-point field goal.

The win moves WKU to 3-2 on the season, and DePaul is now 2-3 on the year.

Jamal Crook led WKU with 16 points, and T.J. Price had 13, five rebounds and five assists. Kevin Kaspar added nine points, and Stephon Drane added a career high six points and three rebounds in 17 quality minutes off the bench. DePaul was led by Cleveland Melvin's 22 points and 13 rebounds.

Gardner-Webb 72, Austin Peay 62
Donta Harper took home MVP honors with a career-high 21 points to lead Gardner-Webb to a 72-62 win over Austin Peay in the Mayan Division title game at the Cancun Challenge.

Harper led four players in double figures, as Max Landis added 16 and Jerome Hill and Tyler Strange each netted a season-high 11 in the win. Landis joined Harper on the All-Tournament squad.

Betran scored 12 of his team-high 18 points in the first half and center Chris Horton added 10 points and four blocks to pace the Govs.

Cancun, Mexico - Tom Tankelewicz drained a pair of free throws in the final second to break the game's fifth tie to lift Western Carolina over Howard, 69-67, to take third place in the Mayan Division at the Cancun Challenge.

Tankelewicz finished with 17 points and five assists, while junior post Tawaski King added 19 points and Trey Sumler netted 17 for the Catamounts (2-4), who snapped a three-game seasonal slide.

Simuel Frazier scored a game-high 23 points for the Bison. Prince Okoroh netted 17 points and Tre Lee poured in 14 for Howard (0-5), which remained winless on the season. Mike Phillips finished with eight points and a game-high seven rebounds.

November 20, 2012 (Game Recaps)

Iowa 63, Western Kentucky 55
Cancun, Mexico -The Iowa Hawkeyes held off the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers 63-55 in the Riviera Division semifinal game.

Iowa's Mike Gesell led all scorers with 19 points and Melsahn Basebe finished with 11.

T.J. Price led Western Kentucky with 16 points and teammate Jamal Crook chipped in 14.

Iowa advances to play Wichita State in the Riviera Division championship game tomorrow at 9:30pm ET. Western Kentucky will face DePaul in the third place game slated for 7pm ET. Both games will be nationally televised on CBS Sports Network.

Cancun, Mexico - Wichita State moved past DePaul 75-62 and will now wait for the winner of Western Kentucky vs. Iowa.

Malcolm Armstead had a team-high 17 points for the Shockers and teammate Demetric Williams finished with 16.

DePaul's Brandon Young led all scorers with 19 points and six rebounds.

Wichita State scored 44 points in the paint compared to eight by DePaul. The Shockers also scored 18 points off of 16 Blue Demon turnovers.

Gardner-Webb 55, Howard 43
Cancun, Mexico - Gardner-Webb moves on to face Austin Peay in the Mayan Division championship game after defeating Howard 55-43.

Gardner-Webb and Austin Peay meet tomorrow at 4pm ET.

Donte Harper led Gardner-Webb with 16 points and nine rebounds and teammate Kevin Hartley added 12.

Alphonso Leary finished with 15 points and six rebounds for Howard.

Howard will play Western Carolina in the Mayan Division third place game slated for 1:30pm ET tomorrow.

Austin Peay 72, Western Carolina 71
Cancun, Mexico - Austin Peay erased a 12-point deficit at halftime to defeat Western Carolina 72-71 in the fifth annual Cancun Challenge.

Travis Betran led the Governors with 22 points hitting 4-of-7 from behind the arc. Teammate Anthony Campbell added 21 and five boards.

Four Western Carolina players scored in double figures with Trey Sumler leading the Catamounts with 16 points, Preston Ross (14), Tawaski King (12), and James Sinclair (10).

Austin Peay struggled shooting the ball in the 1st half (37.5 percent), but couldn't miss in the 2nd half going 14-of-20 from the field (70 percent).

Austin Peay will play the winner of Gardner-Webb vs. Howard in the Mayan Division championship game on Wed., at 4pm ET. Western Carolina will face the loser for third place at 1:30pm ET.
