History

2012 marks the 10th year of the Triple Crown Sparkler tournament. The main headquarters for the tournament is located at the Christopher Complex in Westminster, CO. Most would agree that the Christopher Complex is one of the finest four-field complexes in the United States. Throughout the course of the tournament, we’ll be using facilities in Westminster, Thornton, Federal Heights, Littleton, Arvada, Brighton, Superior, Denver, Commerce City, Lakewood and Northern Colorado Cities. Each community has put a lot of time and effort in to making the Colorado Sparkler a success, and we appreciate all their hard work.

Looking back over the past ten years, we would never have imagined how quickly this event would grow into one of the premier showcase tournaments in the country. In 2002, 108 teams participated in the first year of the Colorado Sparkler. In 2011, the Sparkler, Sparkler Juniors, Fireworks, and Fireworks Juniors brought over 850 teams to Denver.

One of the highlights of the Colorado Sparkler is the Showcase All-Star games. The Showcase All-Star games will start on Monday, June 25, and conclude on Wednesday, June 27, at Christopher Complex. We’ve assembled a wide range of players from across the country. The teams are formed based on division, graduation class, and region of the country. The teams are coached by NAIA and Junior College (JUCO) coaches. This is a great opportunity for those players who are selected to participate in the All-Star games to interact with college coaches and learn about the college exposure process. The All-Star games are also very beneficial for the college coaches. The college coaches are able to recruit players based on their need of a position as well as graduation year.

We will once again play our All-American games on the evening of Thursday June 28 at Christopher Complex. College Coaches will select the top performers from the Showcase All-Star Games earlier in the week to play in these “Best of the Best” games. The All-American games have a MLB All-Star Festival game feel, with over 10,000 fans through the games.

The Sparkler Tournament will once again team up with the Fireworks Tournament to bring you a televised double header like none other in youth fastpitch. The “Power Pool” champions from both tournaments squared off in game one of our double headers in the first annual Sparkler/Fireworks 4th of July Battle of the Best. The first win goes to the Colorado Sparkler Tournament with the Gold Coast Hurricanes defeating the Worth Firecrackers from the Fireworks tournament. Game 2 of the TV double header showcased the top players from both tournaments. The Sparkler/Fireworks All-American Challenge will be a preview of the future stars in College Softball with the Sparkler Tournament All-American defeating the Fireworks All-Americans. It was truly a night to remember! We look forward to this event again in 2011.

We will continue our All Academic Games in 2012. Player’s who registered for an All-Star game before April 1, had the opportunity to apply for an All Academic game. In order to apply the student-athlete had to meet one of the following criteria: 3.8 cumulative, 28 or above on ACT or class rank was in top 15%. This year we have 3 All Academic games scheduled.

Our plans are to continue producing the best tournaments and showcase opportunities in the U.S. Triple Crown is dedicated to develop various opportunities within the college placement experience to help players, as well as college coaches, with the recruiting process. Players and coaches alike, make sure to get signed up and registered for the 2012 event by September 15 to insure your spot in next year’s event. This is a fantastic event and definitely one that prospective student-athletes and college coaches should not miss out on!

Event Testimonials

"This is one of best run, most organized events any team would want to participate in. After several trips to the Sparkler I would incourge all teams at all levels to attend. The competetion, the atmosphere and complexes are all first class. Our organization plans to bring 3 or 4 teams in 2010."

"I have to let you know that this was the first time I had been to the sparkler and it was everything the people said it was. It was the best run tournament I have been involved with in 10 years of coaching. I was very impressed with everything from the fields, the umpires and the people at the fields to answer questions."

"I wanted to thank you and tell you how grateful we were to participate in the Sparkler this year. It was with out a doubt the most professionally run tournament we have played all year. We appreciate all that you did to arrange the discount fun events and the overall experience of all 3 of our teams there was totally positive! You can count us in for next year at the Sparkler!"

--Missouri Revolution

"I am the coaches wife and our daughter went to Virginia Tech on a softball scholarship from 1998 to 2001. We have been to a lot of tournaments through the years, but we have never been to a tournament that has been so informative and helpful with anything and everything, as this one has! You guys have done a great job and I wanted to let you know it. I don't think people stop and think how difficult it is to put on a tournament of this size. We do appreciate all that you have done!! Please forward this to the entire committee, our hats are off to you all."
