  • captain of the silver-medalist 2003 Pan American Games … first on squad in assists (16, 2.3 apg), free throw percentage (.933, 14-for-15) and minutes (28.0 mpg), second in scoring (9.6 ppg)
  • captain of the bronze-medalist 1998 World Youth Games Team

Collegiate Experience

Carey played three years at Texas (2002-05), one year at Stanford University (1999-2000) … after 1999-2000, she missed two seasons of play due to post-concussive symptoms, which forced her to retire with a NCAA medical hardship in November of 2000 … after rest, new medical consultation and testing, was cleared to play in the summer of 2002; Stanford, although not reversing its stance on allowing her to return to play, did successfully petition the NCAA for her return to basketball; it was granted, and Carey signed her UT financial aid agreement in June of 2002 … After playing two years for UT, Carey was granted a special NCAA Five-Year Rule Waiver in November of 2003 which allowed her a sixth year of eligibility due to her unique medical history.
