The Colorado Chill have announced that they have signed 6’4” Layla Schwarz to the 2006 roster. Schwarz is a 2005 graduate of Oklahoma Baptist University.
Head Coach Kelly Packard says of Schwarz’s recent signing, “Layla has tremendous athleticism and her ability to run the floor and her overall versatility fit well into our offensive system.”
Layla transferred to OBU from Oral Roberts University in 2003. That same year she lead OBU in scoring, blocked shots and steals. She was the team’s leading scorer again in 2005 and also received First-Team All-SAC honors as well as the Dean’s Honor Roll. Prior to her time at OBU she was the Mid-Continent Conference high jump champion.
Schwarz’s hometown is Zurich, Switzerland where she was the 1996 champion in the Swiss High Jump when she was just 16 years old. In 1998 she was a member of the Swiss basketball championship team.
