Erin Scholz Returns to the Colorado Chill

Wednesday, October 12, 2005
The Colorado Chill of the National Women's Basketball League (NWBL) announced today that former University of Colorado standout Erin Scholz will return for the 2006 season

"The opportunity for me to play basketball is a privilege and an absolute blessing.  I can't imagine a better team to be a part of at this stage in my career," says Scholz.  "I am thrilled at the opportunity to once again be a part of a team that is committed to excellence both on and off the court."

The 2006 Chill season will mark Scholz's second season with the NWBL championship team.  Last year she averaged 5.9 ppg and 5.8 rebounds per game.

"Erin showed tremendous progress last season and contributed a major role in both of our playoff games in our quest to the 2005 NWBL Championships" says Head Coach Kelly Packard.  "This season will be an opportunity for further growth for Erin and I believe she has a solid foundation of confidence to build upon which will allow her athletic ability to escalate to another level."

Scholz, a 6- foot-3 forward, played at CU from 1993-1997. In that time at CU, she became one of only a handful of players who surpassed the 1,000 point mark with a total of 1,621 points in her four year career. Besides being a great offensive player, she had 145 career steals and blocked 125 shots. Scholz was drafted out of college by the ABL Portland Power in the fifth round but elected to step away from basketball at that time.

Erin is from Colorado Springs, and in preparation for the Chill season has signed on with Athletes in Action Fall Tour where they will compete against 13 Division I college basketball teams.  Erin also has a position with the Vitamin Cottage Natural Grocers in Arvada . She will take a three-month leave of absence from her job to fill a traveling position with the Chill.

Erin is the sixth player on the roster for the 2006 season. She will join USA Gold Medal Olympian Ruth Riley, WNBA All-Star Becky Hammon, 2004 Colorado Chill MVP Katie Cronin, WNBA player Jamie Carey, and local player Danielle Coleman.

The Colorado Chill completed the 2005 season as the regular season champions and were undefeated at home in the Budweiser Events Center. For 2006 season ticket information, contact Melissa at Triple Crown Sports at 970-223-6644 ext.167.
