Katie Cronin Signs One-Year Deal With Silver Stars

Friday, April 8, 2005
FORT COLLINS, Colo. - The Colorado Chill of the National Women's Basketball League (NWBL) announced today that guard/forward Katie Cronin has signed a one-year contract with the San Antonio Silver Stars of the WNBA.

Cronin's contract is not guaranteed unless she makes the roster out of training camp, which begins in two weeks. She has signed a contract for the league minimum of $31,200.

"This is a good opportunity for me," said Cronin. I'm going to go down there and play my game and we'll see what happens."

Cronin, who played primarily the small forward and shooting guards positions this year with the Chill in 2005, averaged 14 points and 5.5 rebounds per game.

Cronin's best game of the season came on Jan. 16 when she poured in 30 points against the Chicago Blaze. Cronin made 8-of-10 3-point field goal attempts in the game to help Colorado to a 111-106 double-overtime win.

"As an organization, we are very excited and happy for Katie," said GM Aaron Moore. "Katie is a valuable part of the Chill and with the way she plays she can be an asset to any WNBA franchise."

In addition to playing with Colorado in 2004 and 2005, Cronin played collegiately at Colorado State University where she was a two-time honorable mention All-American. She also played her high school ball in Colorado as a member of the Horizon Hawks.

Preseason play for the WNBA begins on Sunday, May 1, 2005 when the Minnesota Lynx visit the Connecticut Sun. San Antonio will open the preseason on Thursday, May 6 when they host Los Angeles. The ninth regular season for the league is scheduled for Saturday, May 21 with 10 of 13 teams in action.

The NWBL is a six-team league that features more than 25 active WNBA players. Other teams in the league include the Birmingham Power (Birmingham, Ala.); Dallas Fury (Dallas, Texas); Chicago Blaze (Naperville, Ill.); San Jose Spiders (San Jose, Calif.) and Lubbock Hawks (Lubbock, Texas).
