West Defeats East in NWBL All-Star Game
Becky Hammon Takes Home MVP

Sunday, February 21, 2005
LOVELAND, Colo. – In front of an announced crowd of 2,549, the West All-Stars defeated the East All-Stars by a final score of 91-82 at the Budweiser Events Center in Loveland, Colorado.

Becky Hammon of the Colorado Chill took home the 2005 Most Valuable Player award by scoring a game-high 20 points in the game. Hammon also pulled-down three rebounds and handed out five assists in 25 minutes of action.

Four other players scored in double-figures for the West All-Stars, a team comprised of members from the Colorado Chill, Lubbock Hawks and San Jose Spiders. Lubbock’s Shereka Wright scored 15 points and Colorado’s Carrie Bacon and Katie Cronin each chipped in with 14. Also scoring in double-figures for the West All-Stars was Jocelyn Penn from the Hawks as she finished with 12.

Chill forward Erin Scholz, who tied Hammon with 20 points in the game, led the East All-Stars. Chill owner David King called on Scholz to fill a roster spot after several injuries limited the East team to only six players. Scholz finished the game 10-of-15 from the floor and also pulled-down 12 rebounds.

Dallas’ lone healthy representative, Felicia Ragland, had a solid game for the East by scoring 14 points and pulling down 15 rebounds. The three other players in double-figures for the East were Sonia Chase (Birmingham), Keisha Anderson (Chicago) and Vernessa Neamo (Birmingham) with 14, 12 and 10 respectively.

Prior to tip-off, players from both all-star teams took part in three different shooting competitions. The contests included a team 3-point contest, two-ball contest and individual 3-point contest. Members of the Colorado Chill stole the show in the early exhibitions. In the final round of the two-ball it was a pair of Colorado teammates in Hammon and Bacon taking on Cronin and Dallas Fury guard Felicia Ragland. Hammon and Bacon got the best of the Cronin and Ragland to take the final.

In the individual 3-point shooting contest Cronin and Hammon squared off again, but Cronin matched her teammate and best friend 20-19 in the final round. Hammon went into the last rack needing to make all five shots, but she connected on just four to give Cronin the win.

The Colorado Chill will next be in action on Saturday night when they travel to San Jose to take on the Spiders at 8:05 p.m. MST. The team will return home the following evening to take on San Jose at 6:05 p.m. MST at the Budweiser Events Center.
