Colorado Smashes Spiders; Back to Winning Ways
Chill Improve Winning Streak to 20 Games at BEC

LOVELAND, Colo. – After a three-game road trip and two-game losing streak, the Chill returned to the court on Sunday night determined to get back to the winning ways and they did so by defeating the San Jose Spiders by a final score of 89-56.

The 33-point margin of victory was the largest in team history. Before tonight, the Chill’s largest margin of victory of 25 points came in the third game of the 2004 season when they defeated the Chicago Blaze 108-83.

 

With the win, Colorado improves to 9-3 on the season and remains in first place in the National Women’s Basketball League.


Carrie Bacon led all scorer’s with 22 points in the game on 8-of-11 shooting from the floor. Bacon also grabbed five rebounds in the game in just 24 minutes of action.


Becky Hammon and Erin Scholz were the only other players to reach double-figures in the game for the Chill, who shot 52.7% from the floor. Hammon scored 15 and Scholz chipped in with 10 for Colorado.


San Jose was led in the game by the 20 points of Amish Carter. Carter was 8-of-15 from the floor in the game and San Jose shot just 30% as a team. Colorado held the Spiders to just 19 field goals made in the game.


San Jose defeated the Birmingham Power on Saturday night to win its first game of the season. With the loss tonight, the Spiders fall to 1-9 on the season to remain in last place.


The Chill will return to action on Tuesday night when the Chicago Blaze visits the Budweiser Events Center at 7:05 p.m. The game will be pivotal for both teams in the league standings as Colorado is just two games ahead of the Blaze.


Colorado is 2-1 against Chicago this season and is 1-0 at the BEC. Colorado defeated the Blaze by on January 23 by a final score of 90-74.
