NAPERVILLE, Ill. – On Super Bowl Sunday, it was the shooting for the Blaze that was super, as they defeated the Colorado Chill by a final score of 92-77 in Naperville.
The two teams battled back and forth in the first half, but Chicago entered the locker room with a two-point lead over Colorado.
In the second half it was the hot shooting of the Blaze that did in Colorado as they shot 68% percent from the floor. Chicago made 21-of-31 field goal attempts, including 7-of-11 from behind the three-point line.
The game was similar to the double-overtime game the teams played in mid-January, as Colorado was red-hot from the floor to secure the victory.
Colorado also shot the ball well in the game, connecting on 48% of their field goal attempts, but it was turnovers that did them in down the stretch. The Chill committed 21 turnovers in the game, compared to only 11 for the Blaze.
Tamika Catchings and Keila Beachem each led the way for Chicago with 19 points in the game. Catchings also pulled-down a team-high eight rebounds in the contest for the Blaze.
Two other players also scored in double-figures for Chicago, with LaTonya Johnson and Kim Williams recording 18 and 16 points respectively.
Four players scored in double-figures for Colorado in loss, which dropped to 8-3 on the season, with Becky Hammon leading the way with 27 points in the game. Ruth Riley and Carrie Bacon finished with 16 points apiece, while Katie Cronin pitched in with 11.
Erin Scholz grabbed a game-high nine rebounds in the game, but she was held scoreless for the second straight contest.
After finished the road trip at 1-2, Colorado will return back to the friendly confines of the Budweiser Events Center on Sunday, February 13, 2005. The Chill will play host to the San Jose Spiders, who are looking for its first win of the 2005 season, at 6:05 p.m.
