LOVELAND, Colo. – Meeting for the second time in less than a week, Colorado got the revenge they were looking for on Saturday as they defeated the Birmingham Power 83-72.
The win improved Colorado to 6-1 on the season, while dropping Birmingham to 3-2 and into third place in the league standings.
Led by the scoring of Becky Hammon and Katie Cronin in the first half, Colorado was able to open up a 13-point halftime lead and seemingly took control of the game.
Colorado shot 60.6% from the floor in the first half, connecting on 20-of-33 field goal attempts, compared to only 13 field goal makes for the Power. The second half evened out for both teams in terms of shooting percentage, as both teams shot just over 40%.
Birmingham tried to make it a game late in the second half by going to a full-court press on the defensive end of the court. After going to the full-court press, Birmingham forced five turnovers and converted those into eight points to close the gap to as little as nine points.
Hammon and Cronin led the way for Colorado in scoring with 22 points each, which was a game-high. Also scoring in double-figures for the Chill was Ruth Riley and Carrie Bacon, who finished the night with 15 and 13 points respectively.
Birmingham also had four players in double-figures in the game with Andrea Lalum and Sonia Chase each scoring 22 points. For Lalum, it was her first game in the Power lineup as she arrived in town this afternoon to replace Aiysha Smith who left the team earlier in the week.
Colorado will take on the Lubbock Hawks on Sunday night at the Budweiser Events Center. This will be the second meeting of the season between the two teams. The Chill won the first meeting on opening day by a final score of 70-67.
