LOVELAND, Colo. – The Colorado Chill looked surprisingly fresh in their 16 point win over the visiting San Jose Spiders on Monday night, as they cruised to a 77-61 victory.
Colorado was playing in their third game in as many days, a stretch that included a trip to Chicago on Sunday to play the Blaze.
The Chill used another sharp-shooting night from the perimeter to jump out to an 11-point halftime lead. Led again by Becky Hammon, who scored a game-high 16 points, Colorado shot 48% from the floor as a team. With her 16 points on the night, Hammon has scored at least 15 points in every game she has played with Colorado.
Ruth Riley had another strong night and earned her third consecutive double-double by scoring 15 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.
Former University of Colorado 1,000 point scorer, Erin Scholz, had arguably her strongest game of the season for the Chill. Scholz only scored six points, but she pulled down a game-high 16 rebounds. Katie Cronin was the only other player to be in double-figures for the Chill as she finished the night with 12 points.
San Jose managed to put three players in double-figures, but as a team only 28.6% from the floor. They were even worse from behind the arc connecting on only 2-of-10 attempts. Andrea Garner had her second consecutive 15-plus point game, as she led the way for the Spiders with 15.
Colorado will be in action again on Sunday night when the Chicago Blaze visits the Budweiser Events Center. Tip-off for the game is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. The game will also be Becky Hammon Night and the first 2,000 fans through the door will receive a Becky Hammon poster.
