RAPID CITY, S.D. – The Colorado Chill opened the 2005 season in an unfamiliar place, except for one Becky Hammon, and she showed she was right at home in the convincing 29-point win over the Chicago Blaze in an exhibition game.
The former Rapid City high school star was the highlight of the evening for the 2,200 fans at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center, as she wowed the crowd with no look passes and amazing drives to the bucket. On the night, Hammon finished with 18 points and 11 assists.
In the 85-56 victory, Erin Scholz paced Colorado with 21 points on 9-of-15 shooting from the floor. Scholz and Hammon were two of four players to score in double-figures. Ruth Riley and Carrie Bacon were the other two, finishing the game with 12 and 10 respectively.
Chicago managed to shoot only 31.3% from the floor in the game and only 43.8% from the free-throw line. Keisha Anderson led the way for Chicago with 14 on the night, followed by 12 from Kim Williams.
The Chill will be back in action on Sunday night when they host the Blaze at the Budweiser Events Center. Game time for Sunday is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. The regular season is scheduled to begin on January 15, when the Lubbock Hawks visits Colorado at 7 p.m.
