Chill Re-sign Hawes

September 15, 2004- The Colorado Chill of the National Women's Basketball League announced the re-signing of Shawna Hawes as one of it's four local taxi squad players.

Hawes, a 6-foot small forward, finished the 2004 Chill season as a local player that participated in all of the practices, suited up for home games, and made a few of the road trips. In the 2005 season, Shawna has an opportunity to become a traveling roster player and take a bigger roll on the team.

"We are delighted to have Shawna back on the roster this season," said Dave King, General Manager for the Chill. "She fits the roll of great community roll model for the young girls in the area, and I believe her game has taken a step up since last season."

Hawes played at Regis University from 1993-1997 after graduating in 1993 from Poudre High School. She is eighth on the all-time list at Regis for career scoring, with 1,039 points. She coaches girl's basketball at Cache La Poudre Junior High and also in the Junior Impalas basketball club. Shawna is married to Steve Hawes, the junior varsity boy's basketball coach at Poudre High School, and lives in Fort Collins.

"I am very excited to be back with the Chill," said Hawes. "The fans were awesome. I am hoping to improve my game enough to get some actual playing time next season."

Shawna is the sixth player on the roster for the 2005 season. She will join USA Gold Medal Olympian Ruth Riley, WNBA All-Star Becky Hammon, 2004 Colorado Chill MVP Katie Cronin, Teresa Hinz, a fire fighter in the Greeley area, and former University of Colorado player Erin Scholz.

The Colorado Chill completed the 2004 season as the regular season champions and were undefeated at home in the Budweiser Events Center. For 2005 season ticket information, contact Kim at Triple Crown Sports at 970-223-6644 ext.167.
