The Colorado Chill announced today that Ruth Riley
has opted to return for a second year with the Colorado Chill during
the 2005 season.
Riley, who is currently part of the WNBA defending champion Detroit
Shock, will return in January to fulfill her second year of a three-year
contract. Ruth had an option that would have allowed her out of
her contract early, but in the beginning of July she informed the
Chill that she would not be exercising that option.
"I'm very excited about Ruth's return," Chill owner
Dave King said. "It will be a lot of fun to have Becky (Hammon)
bring the ball up the court and have Ruth down under the basket."
Currently during the 2004 WNBA season with the Detroit Shock,
Ruth has averaged 11.2 points, 6 rebounds, 1.47 blocks, and 31.1
minutes in nineteen games, all as a starter. Riley finished the
Colorado Chill 2004 season with an average of 13.1 points, 8.4
rebounds, 1.4 blocks in 30.6 minutes in fourteen games.
"I'm very excited about the opportunity to come back and
play for the Chill, said Riley. "It's a great organization,
the fans are loyal and devoted, and it's going to be an exciting
year with Becky healthy."
Riley is the third player on the roster for the 2005 season. She
will join WNBA All-Star, Becky Hammon and Teresa Hinz, both former
Colorado State standouts.
The Colorado Chill completed the 2004 season as the regular season
champions and were undefeated at home in the Budweiser Events Center.
