LOVELAND, Colo. – The Colorado Chill (13-6) of the National
Women’s Basketball League (NWBL) used a strong second half
effort from Jill Chapman-Daily and Katie Cronin to defeat the Chicago
Blaze (7-10) 77-70 at the Budweiser Events Center.
Chapman-Daily came
out of the locker room with only seven points and three rebounds,
but came out in the second half and scored 11 more points and
pulled down five more rebounds. Chapman-Daily ended the game with
18 points and tied for a game-high eight rebounds.
Chapman-Daily
was inserted into the starting center position, in place of Ruth
Riley who left today to play with TEAM USA in Europe. Riley is
expected to return for the Chill’s first
playoff game on either Tuesday, March 30 or Wednesday, March
31.
NWBL All-Star Katie Cronin also finished the game
strong for the Chill, as she finished the game with a near triple-double.
Cronin ended the night with 11 points, seven rebounds and six
assists.
All five Chill starters ended the game in double-figures
for the first time this season. Maren Walseth finished with 12
and eight rebounds, Jenny Roulier had 19 points and three rebounds
and point guard Helen Darling finished with 11 points and a game-high
eight assists.
On the night, Colorado shot 48% from the floor
connecting on 29-of-60 field goal attempts, while Chicago shot
47% on 26-of-55 shooting from the floor. Chicago was led in scoring
by LaTonya Johnson who finished the game with 16 points.
Colorado’s
next game will be on Sunday afternoon when they will host the
Birmingham Power at 2 p.m. MST. Colorado is 2-1 against the
Power this season, including a 14-point home court win on March
2.
The NWBL is a six-team league that features 27
active WNBA players. Other teams in the league include the Birmingham
Power (Birmingham, Ala.); Springfield Spirit (Springfield, Mass.);
Dallas Fury (Dallas, Texas); Houston Stealth (Houston, Texas);
Colorado Chill (Ft. Collins, Colo.) and Chicago Blaze (Naperville,
Ill.).
