New Britain, CONN. – For the second time in less than two
weeks the Colorado Chill of the National Women’s Basketball
League (NWBL) traveled east to take on the Springfield Spirit,
both times walking away with road victories.
Colorado used a big second half effort from front liners, Ruth
Riley and Carrie Bacon, to cruise to the 68-55 win. Riley and
Bacon (15 points) both finished the game in double-figures,
with Riley finishing with a game-high 19 points on 9-of-13 shooting.
Riley also pulled-down seven rebounds in the game, trailing
only forward Katie Cronin who ended the night with eight boards.
The Chill used solid shooting as a team finishing the night 29-of-57
from the floor, which equals to better than 50%, to improve their
first place record to 11-5. The only down side shooting on the
night was from the free-throw line, where Colorado managed to make
only three of ten attempts.
Springfield was led on the night by starting shooting guard Cindy
Blodgett, who finished with 17 points. She was the only player
in double-figures for the Spirit, as the team dropped to 4-11 on
the season.
There will not be much time away from each other
for these two teams. Springfield will make their third and final
trip to Colorado on Tuesday night, where they are already 0-2 (0-4
overall) this season. Tip-off for the Tuesday night game is scheduled
to begin at 7p.m.zlm.
The NWBL is a six-team league that features 27 active WNBA players.
Other teams in the league include the Birmingham Power (Birmingham,
Ala.); Springfield Spirit (Springfield, Mass.); Dallas Fury (Dallas,
Texas); Houston Stealth (Houston, Texas); Colorado Chill (Ft. Collins,
Colo.) and Chicago Blaze (Naperville, Ill.)
