LOVELAND, Colo. – The Colorado Chill of the National Women’s
Basketball League (NWBL) shot true to the team name on Tuesday
night in the win over the visiting Birmingham Power.
The Chill were
cold all night as they managed to shoot only 35.4% from the floor
in the 14-point win. Colorado was out shot on the night by the
Power, as Birmingham connected for 40.7%.
The key all night for
Colorado was rebounding. Colorado dominated on both ends of the
court, out rebounding Birmingham 49-36. The deciding factor for
the Chill was their work on the offensive end, as they held a
27-12
edge on the glass. Five players for the Chill had at least three
offensive boards with forward Katie Cronin leading the way with
five.
Cronin reached double-figures in scoring for the
tenth time this season, scoring a game-high 18 points. Cronin also
led the way with 11 rebounds and tied point guard Helen Darling
with a game-high five assists.
Other players reaching double-figures
in points for Colorado were Jenny Roulier (15), Maren Walseth
and Ruth Riley. Each finished with the game with 10 points. This
was the first league game for Riley since Feb. 8th against Dallas,
as she has been training with the US National Team in Cuba.
NWBL
All-Star Jen Surlas led the way for the Power with 17 points
on 5-of-10 shooting. Gail Strumpf and Jaynetta Saunders were also
in double-figures with 12 and 10 points respectively.
With the
victory the Chill improved to 10-5 on the season, and are now
a perfect 8-0 at the Budweiser Events Center. The loss dropped
the Power to 5-8 on the season, just one game ahead of last place
Springfield.
Colorado’s next game will be on Friday night
when they travel to Springfield to take on the Spirit at 5:30
p.m MST. The Chill lead the season series with the Spirit 3-0.
The
NWBL is a six-team league that features 27 active WNBA players.
Other teams in the league include the Birmingham Power (Birmingham,
Ala.); Springfield Spirit (Springfield, Mass.); Dallas Fury (Dallas,
Texas); Houston Stealth (Houston, Texas); Colorado Chill (Ft.
Collins, Colo.) and Chicago Blaze (Naperville, Ill.).

Powerful WinTuesday the Colorado Chill in its inaugural
