Chill Wins in Overtime, Remain Perfect at Home

LOVELAND, Colo. – It was all about the “Bacon” on Saturday night at the Budweiser Events Center in the Chills 90-78 overtime win over the Dallas Fury.

 

Colorado Chill newcomer Carrie Bacon made a huge impression on the league and the Colorado fans in her National Women’s Basketball League (NWBL) debut.

 

Bacon poured in 22 of her 24 points in the second half and overtime for the Chill. In only 27 minutes on the floor, the former University of Wyoming star finished the night 12-of-14 from the floor to finish with the team-high.

 

The Chill, who trailed by seven points at halftime, outscored the Fury by seven points in the second half to force the extra session. It was the bench of Colorado who helped get the crowd going, and helped them get back in the game.

 

At the 13:00 minute mark of the second half, Dallas opened their biggest lead of the game at 14 points. It was then Colorado went to their bench and Bacon, Candace Baldwin and Angie Nelp sparked the comeback. The Chill did not go to their bench for the rest of the second half and overtime. In the extra session Colorado outscored the Fury 14-2, en route to the 12 point win.

 

Starters Helen Darling and Maren Walseth also finished the game in double-figures with 17 and 11 points respectively. Walseth also pulled-down a game-high nine rebounds and tied for the team lead with seven assists.

 

The Fury were led in the game by NWBL All-Star Anna DeForge who finished with a game-high 30 points. It was DeForge that sent the game to overtime, as she hit on a long three-point field goal with seven seconds remaining. DeForge did most of her damage in the second half, as she collected 23 of her 30 points.

 

Other players in double-figures for the Fury were Maxann Reese (10), Kina Brown (10) and Sheila Lambert finished the game with 18.

 

With the victory the Chill improved to 9-5 on the season, and are now a perfect 7-0 at the Budweiser Events Center. The loss dropped the Fury to 6-6 on the season, and they fell to third place in the NWBL.

 

Colorado’s next game will be on Tuesday night when they will host the Birmingham Power to the Budweiser Events Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. MST.

 

The NWBL is a six-team league that features 27 active WNBA players. Other teams in the league include the Birmingham Power (Birmingham, Ala.); Springfield Spirit (Springfield, Mass.); Dallas Fury (Dallas, Texas); Houston Stealth (Houston, Texas); Colorado Chill (Ft. Collins, Colo.) and Chicago Blaze (Naperville, Ill.).
