The Colorado Chill of the National Women's Basketball
League announced today the signing of former University of Wyoming
star, Carrie Bacon, to a 2004 contract. Bacon will join the Chill
on Tuesday, February 24 and will be on the roster in time for the
Chill's next home game at the Budweiser Events Center in Loveland,
CO on Saturday, February 28 th at 7 pm against the Dallas Fury.
Bacon will play power forward for the Chill and will split time
with Maren Walseth, a Penn State graduate, and Katie Cronin, a
Colorado State graduate.
Bacon, a 2003 Wyoming graduate, has spent
the last five months playing for Amicale Stesil in Luxembourg,
a division one European Professional team. Bacon has been averaging
29.6 points per game in leading her team to the Luxembourg playoffs
in April. Bacon will rejoin her Luxembourg team directly following
the Colorado Chill playoffs the last week of March.
"Carrie will add needed depth, muscle, and scoring
from the power forward position for us. She is a proven warrior
on the court and her energy will help us in the stretch run, plus
she fits into our long term plans," said David King, General Manager
of the Colorado Chill.
At Wyoming Bacon earned all-conference and
all-region recognition. She will become the eighth key player
from the area joining former University of Colorado star, Jenny
Roulier, Colorado State standouts, Becky Hammon, Katie Cronin,
Angie Gorton-Nelp, Teresa James-Hinz, and Shannon Randles, and
University of Regis star, Shawna (Marsh) Hawes. The Chill also
boasts Olympic hopeful and Detroit Shock WNBA Playoff MVP Ruth
Riley, Sacramento Monarch's guard Edna Campbell, Helen Darling
of the Minnesota Linx, Jill Chapman-Daily of the Detroit Shock,
Maren Walseth former Penn State Star, and TCU guard Candace Baldwin.
Hammon is currently on injured reserve and Hinz is on maternity
leave.
The Chill is currently in second place in the
NWBL with a 7-5 record and will play their next game against the
Spirit in Springfield , Massachusetts on Sunday at 1 pm mst . The
Chill play their home games at the Budweiser Events Center in Loveland
