LOVELAND, Colo. – The Colorado Chill of
the National Women’s
Basketball
League (NWBL) picked up their first road win of the season as they
defeated the Birmingham Power 78-73.
Colorado entered the game against the Power at
6-5 overall and 0-5 away
from the Budweiser Events Center. With the win, the Chill is now
7-5 and
in second place in the league standings behind the Houston Stealth.
The Chill was led in scoring by forward Maren
Walseth, who finished with a
game-high 22 points. Walseth finished the game 10-of-16 from the
floor
and led three other Chill players in double-figures as the Chill
picked up
their first road win of the year.
Colorado guards Edna Campbell and Jenny Roulier
each finished the game
with 16 points and Helen Darling ended the game with 10. For the
second
straight game, Colorado shot better than 50% from the floor, as
they
connected on 30-of-58 shot attempts in the game.
Birmingham entered Sunday’s game on
a hot streak as they had reeled off
three straight wins. With the loss, Birmingham is now tied for
fourth
place with the Dallas Fury at 4-4.
The Power was led in scoring by Alisa Burras and
Gail Strumpf, each
finished the game with 14 points. Burras and Strumpf were two of
five
players in double-figures for the Power who shot 41.7% for the
game, but
committed 19 turnovers.
The game against Birmingham was the Chill’s
final game before Monday’s
inaugural All-Star Game in Colorado. The Chill will return to the
court
on February 22 when they will travel to Springfield to take on
the last place
Spirit.
The NWBL is a six-team league
that features 27 active WNBA players. Other
teams in the league include the Birmingham Power (Birmingham, Ala.);
Springfield Spirit (Springfield, Mass.); Dallas Fury (Dallas, Texas);
Houston Stealth (Houston, Texas); Colorado Chill (Ft. Collins,
Colo.) and
Chicago Blaze (Chicago, Ill.).
